Ad Specifications & Guidelines

These are the mechanical requirements for submitting advertisements. Read this page carefully and contact us if you have any questions. If you would like a printable version of this page, click the graphic to the right for a PDF document.

Ad Specifications

Ad & Trim Sizes - All Images Must Fit Within These Dimensions:

Bleed Ads

When supplying a bleed ad build your file at least 1/8" on all sides beyond the 7x10 trim size (Example 7.25" x 10.25").

It is advisable to keep all live matter (copy, art, pictures, etc.) at least 1/4" from trim.

Front Cover Ad Specifications

7" wide x 7.5" high (add 1/8" all around for bleed ads).

Keep live matter a minimum of 1/4" from trim edges, unless those items are purposely meant to be trimmed off.

Back Cover Ad Specifications

· 7.25" wide x 6.325" deep (This includes 1/8" bleed top, left & right).

· Trims to 7" wide (Length does not apply).

· Important: Keep All Copy & Images at Least 1/4" from trim. They will otherwise be trimmed off.

Ad Submission Guidelines

Software Capability We accept Quark XPress, InDesign, PageMaker, FreeHand, Illustrator, Photoshop, *PDF Format.

*PDF Format - PDF Files can not be re-sized or altered so they must be:

· Correct ad size, including bleed when applicable - see ad sizes above

· CMYK, all photos and art used in your file must be CMYK prior to PDF creation

· High-resolution, print optimized setting

· All fonts embedded, no subsetting please

Support Files

When supplying any type of file other than PDF or TIF, include all files necessary to print your ad. This includes fonts and all linked files such as photos and graphics. Resolution should be 200dpi for photos and 900dpi for bitmap line art. Be sure all files have the proper file extension so we can identify what it is!

Fonts

When supplying any type of file other than PDF or TIF, always send copies of both the screen fonts and printer fonts used in your ad (unless you have embedded your fonts or set them to paths/outlines). We prefer Type 1 (postscript) fonts. If you do not provde the fonts, or if your font is not available in Macintosh format, we will substitute a similar typeface.

File Compression

If it is necessary to compress your files please use Stuffit, Zip or any other archiving, self-extracting format.

Disk Compatibility

We accept Macintosh and IBM compatible CDs, DVDs or Zip Disks.

When sending photos through e-mail or FTP, please save them in JPEG format (maximum quality). If you are sending 4-color photos, please send them as RGB and we will convert them according to our printer's specifications. If you are sending multiple files, please compress them into a single file using one of the compression programs listed above. When sending large files (over 2MB) please either send files in separate e-mails or contact your sales representative for other options such as FTP.
